Slacker

Juggling is hard. 40 hour work week. 5 upper level college courses. Working out. Eating right. Family time. I can't juggle for shit. But I'm trying.

This week's main challenge has been eating dinner in as healthy a manner as I'm eating through the day. I'm failing at it. But that stops today. I'm not going to continue to spiral- that's wasting time. Instead, correct when you see the problem.

My 1 year engagement anniversary was yesterday and that meant going out for dinner. However, I avoided my favorite thing at Gordon Biersch (Gorgonzola Bone-In Ribeye) in favor of the much leaner flame grilled NY Strip. And passing on mashed potatoes and opting for the new quinoa and kale side saved me a couple hundred calories and, more importantly, empty carbs.

What was your challenge this week? Was is a special event or getting out of bed in the morning?

My accomplishment of the day was getting up and doing a 10-Minute Trainer session this morning. (Even if it was just the yoga.) It definitely jump-started my day and put me on the right track. Also, a 1-minute plank and some quick push-ups got my heart started.

What's your next fitness step for the day?

Day 1

Day 1:
Day 1 is magical. Its the first day where you haven't done anything wrong yet. You haven't made excuses or gotten sucked into a time waster or slept in or tried to justify a cheeseburger. There is so much potential in that Day 1.

So what do you do with all that magic? If you don't harness it- you set your self up to fail. So to start, you have to set one or more goals. How do you know what road to take if you don't know where you're going?

I'm going to "Loserville". I have a lot of weight to lose. So many of us do. We tell ourselves all kinds of lies: I'm too busy. One more slice of cake won't hurt. I'm in a happy relationship. Its just an attempt at justification. Don't get me wrong- I'm the Queen of Justification. But before you can move forward, you have to stop holding yourself back with excuses.

My excuses stop today. Honestly? I'm lazy and I like my wine. That's why I've gained weight. And as of today, I'm done with that. No more justifying being 70+ lbs over my healthy target weight.

So here are my goals:

1. Work out 4-5 days a week, alternating cardio and strength training. Let walking the dog count and move my butt when I do it.

2. Stop putting junk into my body. Its a temple, not a trashcan. I'm not a soda drinker but not more cheeseburgers and fries from Wendy's. No more handfuls of gummi bears. Make sure I really enjoy that ONE glass of wine on Sunday.

3. Lose 10 lbs by the end of March. Yes, it will be hard but I have a lot to lose and so much to gain.

4. Drink more water. Think its enough? Drink more.

5. Do not have unrealistic expectations for my body. I am not a VS Model. I am not an Olympic Volleyball Player. I will love my body and treat it like other things I love.

6. Don't let one bad act snowball into another. Correct mistakes by making better choices, not by giving up.

7. Lose 20 lbs (total) by the end of May. Plateaus happen- if I account for it now, I will be proud of what I accomplish, not depressed because I didn't follow #5.

8. Drag everyone 'down' with me. Everyone could stand to be a little fitter. Make workout dates, not lunch dates.

9. Do not be crazy. Give my body time to heal and listen to it. However, also don't be afraid to change it up. Keep my body guessing.

10. Be positive. I can do it. Keep that mindset and the body will follow. Don't give it a choice.

If you're reading this- tell me what your goals are. They don't have to be fitness related. This is about the journey of life and to a healthier place. That can be mind, body or soul.

For me, that journey will be about wine, sweat and love.

xoxo
